zaug1561: As long as the piece you're upgrading doesn't become your highest strength or dex requirement piece of gear, upgrade away if you can afford it. The extra defense won't do much but it's better than nothing. So many non-ladder player have more runes than they know what to do with so why not? Plus the defense doesn't upgrade the same every time, and if you can roll the max defense on an upgrade, a lot of people will pay a premium for that perfect defense.
Dunkelelf3: the thing with upgrading is that the base defense of the item rerolls when you upgrade. for example a perfect pair of gores upped for 213 is incredibly more valueable than any other pair. however there are some items that CAN actually be worse. like you upgrade the item from exceptional to elite and you will loose defense because the worse end of elite rolls can be lower than the perfect exceptional roll you had.
upgrading has always been a minmaxing thing. if you really don't care about runes then go ahead. the problem is only really the stats. i don't really think that 7 extra str on top of spirit matters a lot for upped war travs but yeah when you char can get along with 80 str or smth and you need to add 100 extra just for some defense it's a dumb thing to do.
another point is trading. if you have a full perfect pair of war travs it's worth a lot but if you manage to up a 190/10/50 pair into 197 defense mirrored boots people will pay aloooooooooot for them
chrispratt3666: I use double upd magefist on my main single player sorc so I was wondering if you would include them. Not surprised to see you did! Way I see it, there's nobody to trade the Lem to or anything so not much opportunity cost. Gotta agree the defense probably makes almost no difference though.

Algonqiun: Magefists still have less than 156 str (spirit mon), why not go ahead if you have the currency? Frostburn to war gauntlets isn't such a bad idea. Goblin toes and goreriders are worth it for kick sins. HoZ is great for smiters in pvp, very consistent dmg
liquidformat: Titan's is only worth while to up if its eth, and in which case it should always be upped.
War Trav, Gore Rider and Goblin Toe are decent choices for a kicker
I always up HOZ on my hybred smiter/Fister with heaven's light or redeemer in the main hand it is really good
Vuallum: Especially when the upgraded base rolls low on the defense, I agree. Enhanced % or plus defense when a unique drops always gives you 1 to the base, such as a shako being 142, where rerolls don't
aaronpriestley1500: its actually not a mistake upgrading any items as long as you have the stats and it serves your purpose better still high defense really doesn't do much unless you are using skills to amplify it

slaykittens: The magefist doesn’t matter too much in the end stat wise considering most casters will have the str for spirit shield, waste of runes though.
nathancjarrett: I've upgraded only about 5 or 6 items, and all but one has been a normal belt upgraded to Exceptional so I can have 16 belt slots. One of my favorites for a caster has been Lenymo.
